Macramé is a type of textile design created from knotted or woven rope or cords. These knotting methods have been used for centuries all across the world, and were especially popular in the late 1800’s during the Victorian era. Macramé designs were used in linens, tablecloths, shawls, hammocks, and so much more! The macramé trend also exploded in popularity a century later in the 1970’s. It was used to make hippie and bohemian style clothing and home furnishings. It’s such a versatile craft, which explains why it has been so widely popular in so many different times and places around the world.
Well, like many trends, macramé has recently come back into style in a major way. I don’t know about you, but I am loving it!
